Asking Questions
September 2nd, 2006 by P. M. BarendtI’ve found a unique project over at http://www.droppingknowledge.org. Their quest is to build a giant table and seat at it over 100 “great minds” or “most interesting individuals.” The group then proceeds to ask 100 questions, submitted and rated by individuals on the Internet. The call it the “Table of Free Voices.” It appears that the event occurs in a public square where the Nazis used to burn books in Germany. Next, and here’s the cool part, they record all of the responses and create a copyleft archive of those responses, complete with a gnod-style similarities mapping. Now, looking both at the participants and the rated questions, things appear to be a little skewed towards the environmentalism and eco-warrior side, along with humanitarianism, but there are some scholars and interesting individuals around. I imagine it would be hard to get many serious academics and movers-and-shakers at the table, at least at first. But this thing has potential, this much is certain. Let’s hope it can realize its potential. So, go forth, ask questions, and improve the quality of both the questions and the answers. They are asked in seven days.
