Sum, ergo cognito.
Being able to call tyranny what it is - this is the freedom I have gained by teaching myself how to judge. “Judge not” is false advice.
Perspiration vs. Inspiration: Invention? Perspiration can bring bad ideas a longer life than they deserve. Note Edison vs. Tesla… who was more successful at his art?
Tyranny, modernly understood, the usurpation of an individual’s “right” of exerting his will in his affairs. Just as in ancient days, tyranny always and everywhere begs the question: Is all government/state tyrannical? And, yes, this is the classic meaning of “begging the question” - the answer is contained within the premises.

Wow, I am amazed at how many pictures I managed to take over the course of a year. The last real update to the picture gallery here was for the FML folks’ Zoo trip in May 2005 before I stopped publishing new albums due to updates I made to the backend software and gallery packages used here. Even the pictures from the Canada trip just before the Zoo trip haven’t been posted yet. And since last TRULY updating, we’ve seen four or five weddings (one of which we have pictures for), crappy houses (complete with idiot landlords), nicer apartments and all the moving involved in both, at least two “Seculation” bashes, celebrations for Halloween, Corn Fest, Christmas and New Year’s, birthday parties, multiple Hands of Doom concerts, Dessert parties, Wine parties, Cocktail parties, Graduation parties, trips to Niagara Falls, Canada, Las Vegas, San Antonio, Cancun, Mexico, Philadelphia (and Bryn Mawr, PA), and many to Chicago… and of course, the kitties!
So, there are far more pictures than I expected, and far too many to get through in one setting. So far, only the pictures from Lindsey’s house that they all rented are described. Also updated, however, are pictures from Matt and Amber’s Wedding, the Fall 2005 “Seculation” Bash, Sarah’s birthday party in 2005, the original Hands of Doom concert on Halloween, and Halloween at Annie’s.

After finishing the Calc II final exam today, I’ve finally had some time to work a bit on the backend software for this website. I’ve also begun updating the About Me page, as I’ve meant to for quite a while now. Additionally, I’ll finally be adding some more pictures up for those of you who have waited far too patiently, hopefully within the next few days.
There ARE pictures of the kitties, so hang on tight!
I’ve also added a few more quotes, most especially by Aristotle. If you have knowledge of any further attributions for my quotations, please let me know! I’m trying to go back and state (cite, even) the sources they are all pulled from. This may be harder than you think; nobody rigorously attributes quotes anymore… we’re lucky if we can find correct authors in the digital canon, and our notes are long gone for most. Pity.
*A note about pictures:
As we become older and more professional, certain “pictures” become professional embarrasments and can in some cases both prevent career advancement and job placement. Then again, so can some friends, so these problems social networks bring are nothing new. I might have to, eventually, remove public access to some of these images and require registration to view the albums involving all friends. This would be, I believe, a tragedy, so I don’t anticipate doing it for now. Please leave me your thoughts and opinions as to how much of a problem this is.

It appears that the AEA is shaking things up, and launching 4 new journals. The “American Economic Journal” collection will include, broadly, “Microeconomics,” “Macroeconomics,” “Economic Policy,” and “Applied Economics.” According to AEA e-mailer, the journals should commence publication sometime around 2009. Submit now! Or, at least, “in 2007.”
Per the AEA announcement, “The new journals are not subsidiary journals to the AER; each is of equal status.” Whether this means that only the AER will survive and the lives of the JEP and JEL will depart or just that the AER will still exist and not be split into four journals, I cannot tell. It could simply be my inability to parse the statement properly, however.
Which will be your favorite?

There’s a new decision science journal, but this one has a caveat. Apparently, it’s one in the growing trend of being online-only. It seems a pretty serious attempt, the charcter even mentions experimental economics, with that California Institute of Technology whizkid, Colin Camerer, serving on the editing board. Check out Vol 1 Issue 1 here!
